The Benefit of Drinking Green Tea

By Julie Takamatsu

One of things I cherish the most is sitting down at the dinner table with my parents. We would talk about our daily events, laugh at a silly commercial or poke fun at one another, but it was after the meal that was special. My dad would make his extremely, bitter, tasting, Chinese green tea for all of us to drink and since he is dad, there is no way out of it. My parents have always educated us on eating a well-balanced diets containing vegetables, fruits, lean meats and soup. As many of you know, I don't really have the slightest idea how to throw a 6 courses Chinese meal together so both my husband and I elected to either eat out or go for frozen food.

According to a number of studies, green tea can actually be quite good for you. I would be lying if I told you that it taste good. It a bit of an acquire taste, but once you get the hang of it, it's not that bad. Chinese people have always knew about the benefits of tea as they also used it in medical research. It was a good source to cure headache after a night out of town drinking or to help break out all the fatty food in your system.

According to,Source tea has the following benefits:

1.Treat multiple sclerosis
2.Treatment and prevention of cancer
3.Used to stop Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases
4.Used to raise metabolism and increase fat oxidation
5.Reduces the risk of heart diseases and heart attacks by reducing the risk of thrombosis
6.Reduces the risk of esophageal cancer
7.Drinking green tea inhibits the growth of certain cancer cells, reduces the level of cholesterol in blood, improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.
8.Used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular diseases
9.Used to treat impaired immune function. .
10.Some researches show that, drinking green tea regularly may help prevent tooth decay by killing the bacteria which causes the dental plaque.

After all, dad was right! Comments?

Hi Frederick,
Someone once told me that the best advice in life is at the feet of an elder person. Wish I had learned that early on and listen more to my parents as I wouldn't make too many mistakes. I guess we all live and learned.

Ya know, Julie.. try as I might I can't get into green tea. A good iced tea in the summer is great but, I'm a coffee and hot chocolate kinda guy...

You know, I also love drinking hot chocolate and coffee on a cold winter day in New York City (lived there for 6 years), but ice tea is still my #1 love. Have you ever try drinking Hawaii Plantation Ice Tea? It a bit sweeter.

Like any herbal infusion, green tea can be curative if the circumstances are right. Unfortunately there is little evidence to support the many claims, just the opinions of happy users.

What is much more important than adjusting a minute portion of your intake is balancing all that you eat and drink to ensure that you
grt enough vitamins
get enough roughage
get enough fat
get enough essential elements

most importantly - that you get enough pleasure out of what you eat and drink to make life a joy.

Yes. Balancing is very important and enjoying the pleasure of life. Indeed words from the wise. Thanks. ;)

There have been numerous studies done on the benefits of Green Tea (see: Science Daily.com)and its active component, ECEG, that point to it being an incredible preventative.
