Benefits of Learning Yoga

In a ever changing world, the time we actually get to spent on what we enjoyed is limited due to our obligations toward family, careers, kids and chores. In fact, I hardly talk to my friends or even hang out like we used to. There is one thing that no matter how busy life takes us, we always agreed to meet up twice a week at 24hour fitness for our yoga class. Perhaps it is the temptations of a fruit smoothies from my dear friend or the free pick up/drop off that I am so willing to come along. Nah! I really love spending time with my group of friends and they are such a wonderful bunch.

My best guy friend, Greg, introduced me to Yoga. At first, I thought that it would be a piece of cake, but it turn out to be one of the most toughest challenge for me. It require the body to be flexible, but also the willingly to let go of the daily stress and enjoy the music. Each time after class, I was soaking in sweats. As the months goes by, I realized the aches and pains I once had, were surprising gone. I am a lot more focus and alert instead of dosing off during meetings.

According to Web MD source, Yoga has been around for over 5,000 years and close to 11 millions American are practicing it. The benefits of Yoga are:

Flexibility
By stretching your muscles, it release lactic acid that causes stiffness, tension, pain and fatigue. It also increases the range of motion in our joint with a outcome of ease and fluidity throughout your body.

Strength
Depending on the different styles of yoga, you can build strength on your upper body, hamstrings, quadriceps and abdominal muscles.

Posture
With a stronger core, you'll be more aware of your body thus reacting to a slouching or slumping posture. You are more likely to stand up tall and sit up straight.

Breathing
With longer breath and lung capacity, it can in turn help improve sports performance and endurance.

Less stress and more calmness
Decrease in catecholamines which is the hormones that produced the adrenal glands in response to stress and thus creating a feeling of calmness.

Effects on other medical conditions
Relieving symptoms of asthma, back pain, arthritis, insomnia and multiple sclerosis. Yoga also lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate. A good way to prevent heart disease.

There are many other benefits for practicing Yoga, but it will not help you in any way if you are still sitting here reading my post. Get up, get out and try it for yourself. Let me know how it went.

When I was visiting my mother in Florida she asked if I would be interested in being a guest at her yoga class. I said yes.

My mother was very impressed with how flexible I was for my age without taking yoga and how I did all the exercises she did.

Installing and refinishing wood floors is a great way to stay limber

I think that really cool that you also do Yoga and spending time with your mom too.
BTW, I just install bamboo wood floor in my little condo. What would you recommended ask to keeping it nice and shiny?

Hi, Julie! I think yoga saved my life once. If not, it was close. I was teaching a class in an unfamiliar room, and I stood up from the computer for a while, but when I went to sit back down my students had the oddest looks on the faces -- like sheer horror, and some of them opened their mouths to speak but couldn't. I looked back and saw that my chair had silently rolled halfway across the room and there I was suspended in the air in a seated position but with no seat! Some of the things I had been practicing in yoga called for using the right muscles, though, and I just hovered there in mid-air for a moment (thinking) and then stood up again, rather gracefully. But looking back afterward there was a very sharp corner on a desk situated right where I would have fallen.

I remember thinking "I can handle this," and not being at all stressed. Afterward I just said "Oh!" and laughed and went right on with the lesson. I love Yoga!
